Challenge: Part 4 of 6 in Lunch for a week under £10

Baked potato hiding under melted brie

Baked potato hiding under melted brie

Had to resort to buying lunch again. Been so busy lately - there’s just no time for shopping! Came home from work around 22:00 last night - missing the little convenience store at the corner by seconds. Argh. No food anywhere - and I used the last leftovers for yesterday’s salad.

I decided to have lunch at my desk and headed towards Coffee Republik for something cheap & cheerful. Strangely (0r maybe worryingly?), there was almost no line at the bar so I didn’t have to wait to get served. “How much is a baked potato?” I asked. The waitress pointed towards the window display. “How many toppings would you like with that potato?” she said with a smile.

Uhm! Let’s see… delicious prawns, ham, beans, eggs, cheese & bacon.. I wasn’t sure what to pick.  “How many does it come with?” I asked, hoping for at least three of these.

“Oh, the toppings are 85 p each - the potato is £1.90,” she clarified. “85 p each!? Really?” I shrieked. That’s just not fair. The waitress shrugged her shoulders. I bet she knew I’d have one anyway!  Really wanting a baked potato, I picked the most tempting & filling topping. Brie! Smooth, filling, buttery and rich…

I resisted the temptation to splurge by adding prawns, saving all my pennies for this Friday’s Grand Lunch Week Finale. I desperately want to stick to at least one of my original planned lunches - The Cuban Sandwich…

We’ve got a complimentary latte bar in the office, so I stopped by the way back to my desk to pick up a free latte with mint flavour. Moola saved, but I’ll admit today’s lunch was not very exiting!
