Always on the lookout for a beauty bargain, my latest discovery is Smilepod, a new walk-in clinic in the heart of Covent Garden where trained dentists carry out a range of hygiene treatments, starting with a quick clean and polish for £35.

The speedy service will give you gleaming teeth, at a time that’s convenient to you, there’s no need to book an appointment, just drop in. This is so much easier and cheaper than making a trip to the dentist. The typical price of a hygiene session as an NHS patient is around £45, which must be preceded by a dental check up (£16). As a private patient, prices start at about £50.

So, what to expect? The clinic is tucked away on a side-street in Covent Garden and has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, more like a beauty salon than a dentist. Before the treatment your dentist will check your teeth are in good health, and then the brightening begins!

Take your pick from a menu of smile makeover options, from ‘Smile on the Run’ which makes teeth feel and look cleaner in just 15 minutes, to more intense stain removal treatments such as the High Gloss Diamond Polish (£85) which uses jets of calcium carbonate powder and an ultra sonic scaler to restore natural whiteness. While this treatment is a little pricey, it’s worth it if your teeth have become stained and need a little more attention. The clinic also offer teeth whitening treatments at very competitive prices.
