Challenge: Part 2 of 3 in Drop the gym and loose ten pounds in a month

Well, so far I’m not doing too bad! I’m down a kilo, without even adjusting my diet. So what have I been doing…?

A friend of mine told me that you don’t have to be a fast runner to loose weight. All you need to do is to keep yourself in motion at a comfortable speed, and to it frequently enough - about 3 times a week. So, since my first post, I’ve been out for a run four times!

Since I’m just starting out, I’m also trying to make this as easy as possible for myself.. this means…uhm, not running for too long (25 minutes is more than enough) and not trying to loose my breath during this time!

It is so easy to try to do too much when you first start. I’ve been there before and I find it counter productive - too much stress will make you hate the time you spend exercising and it’s so much harder to motivate yourself to get out again.  So my advice is to take the first few runs very very slowly - don’t stress - enjoy it!

When my run is over, I don’t feel too exhausted, just slightly sweaty. It’s getting easier every time I’m out so this week I’ll start running a little bit longer…

Here’s my run this weekend..

  1. Great multi-tasking there! Do you listen to music when you run.. it really motivates me. Also, the best bit about running is when you get to a point when you’re in the zone (all your thoughts have cleared from your mind) and you just become a runningmachine. You’ll feel so much better and motivated if you start reaching that point (it takes me about 10-20mins)… it’s incredibly relaxing.

  2. Thanks Olly!
No - I don’t listen to music, because I’m so lucky as to have the commons right as my running field - love the sound of the birds and the wind in the leaves. But if I was running on the street, I might - music definitely is motivating!
