Challenge: Part 2 of 2 in Pampering day spa for £10

Before I can even set foot in the bathroom, I need to make my own spa products. I spend about half an hour in the kitchen mashing strawberries and mixing up various concoctions. The results? Well, they don’t look half bad. But the real test will be if they actually work or not. Take a look at my home-made product line-up:

Now, for the bathroom. I get to work clearing away all my stuff and scatter my designer-look tea lights. Once I’ve lit the candles and turned off the lights, my bathroom takes on a serene spa-like quality.

Here’s my bathroom before the day-spa makeover:

And here’s it after:

As soon as I’m actually in the tub, sipping on my “champagne”, listening to my favourite music and surrounded by twinkling candlelight, I could be in the most expensive day spa in London. Bliss.

But I have to fight the urge to drift off to sleep by getting to “work” on my hands and feet with my strawberry exfoliator, which does an awesome job and leaves my hands and feet super-soft.

I also apply my oatmeal mask for 10 minutes, and remove it with a muslin cloth, which cost about £2 from Boots. My face looks glowy and smooth, and I honestly can’t notice the difference between the effects of my oatmeal mask and an expensive, top-selling cleanser I once owned.

TOTAL SPENT: £8.22
AVERAGE COST OF CHAMPAGNE SPA PACKAGE: £100
SAVINGS: £91.78

PROS:
- Can linger as long as I want – there’s no time limit.
- I can just crawl into bed after the treatment, I don’t have to battle the crowds/traffic/tube to get home.
- I can tailor the treatment to my exact mood and requirements.
- I didn’t have to listen to sounds of whales mating or Enya urging me to “Sailawaysailawaysailaway”.

CONS
- Takes a bit of time and preparation. I spent about two hours in preparation and shopping time.
- I had to fish out pieces of strawberry from the bathtub afterwards – certainly not the most glamorous of tasks.
- No pummelling on a treatment table!
